  2. Kek is a boy who moved from Sudan Africa to America. Kek is learning new things he didn’t have back at his home he experiences things he doesn’t have in Africa like airplanes. He describes things in America in a different way that Americans think of it like when Dave gave Kek a him gloves kek said “ The man gives me a fat shirt and soft things like hands. “ Kek can find things he likes in a snap because right when he saw the cow he didn’t want to leave the cow Dave had to tell him that they had to go on with their car ride.

    1. Meghan, I think that the paragraph is a bit hard to understand because of the punctuation, but otherwise, I love it. I like how you noticed that Kek can find things that are like home "in a snap."

  3. I think Kek is a lonely boy in this new country America. Being from Sudan, he doesn’t have experience with the culture, climate, and language of America. He feels like Dave is disrespecting the “god with a wet nose.” In Sudan, Kek never felt or saw snow before. He is used to the burning of the sun on his skin, so the snow is like claws on his skin. (p.3) I know he doesn’t like English, because Kek says in the book “To help him, I try some English, but my mouth just wants to chew the words and spit them on the ground.” (p.7) I think that Kek misses his country and life at home.

    1. Very complete answer I loved the part where you said “ Dave is disrespecting the “god with a wet nose”” that was amazing thinking.

  4. Kek is a boy from Sudan who is moving to Minnesota and is seeing things that he thinks is amazing that is normal to us. One example is he was amazed by snow that we see all the time. Kek from what I've learned is a very interesting boy.An example is when he wants to stop and look at the cow. That is not normal most people don’t want to stop and talk to a cow.

  5. Kek is an african boy who is moving to Minnesota and is seeing things in totally different way for example : He said an airplane was a flying boat, another example is that he saw that the trees were not growing and he asked, who killed the trees! Another interesting thing about Kek is that since he comes from Sudan cows are very important to him because they are sacred to his people. Like the man said a cow is god with a wet nose.

    1. I agree Kek is a kid that doesn’t know anything about America and he doesn't know a lot about English and it is hard for Kek to learn how to speak English. Kek probably is annoyed by America because there are a lot of things that Kek doesn’t enjoy. One example, is that when Kek saw the snow he said “ No, this cold is like claws on my skin!” so it shows that he really doesn’t like being on America and he wishes he could stay in Sudan.

    2. I like your post, but more examples would be good. It is really hard to learn another language, and you would be confused if you were living with people who only spoke Chinese. Great thinking.

    3. Matthew, I agree with you that Kek is annoyed and confused and I thought that he didn't just miss his family but he doesn't even know if they are alive or dead! I also thought that even though he misses home, he respects what he has because he had so little in Africa.

  7. Kek is a boy how is moving to a new country and has to learn English. Kek doesn't seem shy because he walked right out in the field to pet a cow. He is afraid he is going to mess up, because he didn't want to answer a question in school. Also, he wants to be involved with other kids and to act like an American boy. For example, he wants to have a snow ball fight with the kids he saw out the window.

  8. Kek is a boy who moved to America from Africa. I think Kek is courageous because he had to move from Africa to America. He also has to learn English, and his brother and his dad had died in a war and he does not know were his mom is.

  9. Kek is a loving boy from Sudan, Africa who is traveling to America far from home. When he gets off the “flying boat” or airplane he sees snow and ice, which he had never seen before. Kek also loves cattle because it reminds him of his father and home. Kek turns words like “airplane” and “coat” into words that he knows, like “flying boat” and “puffy shirt.” Now he is spending time with Dave who is taking care of him now in America, and learning lots of new things in a new country.
